Great Britain, Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, Nottingham Bank (Samuel Smith & Company), Specimen £50 banknote, 18-- (circa 1880), black serial number E801 top left, E900 lower right, watermarked paper with elephant in the design, front: denomination top right and lower left, “Fifty Pounds”, large green “FIFTY” underprint at centre as protector, company logo (oval garter with three dragons and chevron inside, elephant crest) at left, “Promise to pay the Bearer ___________ on Demand here or at Messrs Smith, Payne & Smiths, Bankers, London, Value received” at centre, “For Samuel Smith & Company” below, perforated “SPECIMEN” on the reverse (backwards from the front), printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co, 198mm x 116mm (Roger Outing “Catalogue of the Provincial Banknotes of England & Wales” 1614n).
