Great Britain, Yorkshire, Swaledale & Wensleydale Banking Company Limited (established 1836, taken over by Barclays Bank in 1899), Richmond Branch, uniface £5 provincial banknote, dated 11 November 1895, serial number V907, entered by James Wiggins, signed by Mr Ness Walker (General Manager of the bank), “£5” denomination in top corners, “FIVE POUNDS” in lower left corner, vignette of Richmond Castle at left, vignette of Bolton Castle at right, “I Promise to pay the Bearer on demand FIVE POUNDS value recd” at centre over large green FIVE underprint, back blank, 190mm x 100mm. Note cross cancelled in black ink and signatures crossed, round black “CATTERICK” bank stamp dated 18 February 1899 (the year the bank was amalgamated with Barclays).
A few pinholes and heavy folds, one or two spots of tone, otherwise good fine and rare with complete signatures.
