A Select & Choice Collection of English Coins

Mr Sotheby and Son. Catalogue of a Select and Choice Collection of English Coins in Silver and Copper, a few rare Gold; Among which will be found, Edward’s Noble of his 20th Year: also a Noble of his 27th Year, a very rare variety: Among the Silver will be Found, A rare and fine Groat of Edward the First, A Good Collection of Siege Pieces, and Other Rare Coins of Charles I., &c. Monday May 3rd, 1830. Large paper copy, 10, 126 lots. With the name ‘General Ainslie’ discreetly noted on the front wrapper. Ruled in red, hand priced throughout. Dusty and browned, edges chipped as is to be expected. Contents otherwise clean. Notices of future sales printed on the back wrapper, of particular note is the advertisement for the forthcoming sale of the Earl of Morton’s collection of coins and medals due ‘Early in May’. There is some dispute over the ownership of this collection with Manville stating that some copies clearly identify it as being that of the Rev. Thomas Frederick Dymock. He goes on to state however that it is marked as ‘General Ainslie’ in one – possibly this same catalogue. (M&R p68)
