INDIAN MUTINY MEDAL, 1857-1858, Single Clasp, Lucknow (Wm. Crosbie, 7th Husrs); officially impressed. Lightly toned, one or two very minor reverse bumps, otherwise nearly extremely fine. Sold with copy original roll mention confirming this entitlement, and showing that Private William Crosbie is recorded as having ‘Died’ on the 13th of June, 1858, presumably from heat stroke – which at the time caused a great number of casualties, as did tropical disease, which is the other possibility. The 7th Hussars were awarded 2 Victoria Crosses during Indian Mutiny Campaign, the first of which was won at Musa Bagh. Notably at the action at Nawabgunge, the 7th Hussars charged a party of enemy Infantry in the open, leaving none alive.
