QUEENS SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL
QUEENS SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL, 1899-1902, 2nd type reverse, two clasps, Orange Free State, Transvaal (5674 Pte. T. Shea, Rl. Wt. Surrey Regt.). Attractively toned, extremely fine. Timothy Shea was born in Lambeth, London, in 1880. Having formerly worked as a Van Guard, he attested for service with the Royal West Surrey Regiment on the 10th of June, 1898. His short service papers note that he had previously served in the 3rd East Surrey Regiment prior to this. Pte Shea would go on to serve in the 2nd Boer War in South Africa for a period of 1 year and 214 days, eventually completing his 12-year service on the 9th of June, 1910. Sold with copy attestation papers and roll mention confirming this, his only award with two clasps.
