Great Britain, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, The Grainger Permanent Building Society (established 1863), Preference Share Certificate for £100 bearing interest at 3½%, 24 December 1932, no.E7023, for Thomas Alder Thorp of Bondgate Hill, Alnwick, and Minnie Telford and Joseph Ernest Archer (the third marked as “deceased see endorsement” with red type-written overprint), details of the deaths of all three on the back with endorsement notes, superb vignette of Richard Grainger (local builder who rebuilt the centre of Newcastle in the 1830s) to left, engraved by A Ritchie of Edinburgh, embossed company seal lower right.

Two staple rust marks on lower edge, small tear and hole, otherwise about extremely fine, attractive and very rare.

Bearing in mind the date on the certificate, this could have been given to the three as a Christmas present.
