Macrinus’ short-lived reign followed the assassination of the Severan ruler Caracalla. His son, Diadumenian, was made Caesar at only nine years of age. He was even promoted to co-emperor the following year. Unfortunately a resurgence of the Severan Dynasty resulted in the pair being murdered while fleeing to Parthia, by supporters of Elagabalus in June 218 AD.
