Two sides to every story

For thousands of years, coins have charted the rise and fall of empires. They have been passed down, traded, stolen and hoarded. Those that remain provide a tangible connection to the past and a window into the culture, politics, religion and views of the time. There are two sides to every story. On the surface, these coins tell us about a moment in history. But turn them over, and they reveal the lives of remarkable individuals.

As unique as a fingerprint

A personal collection is as unique as a fingerprint. To hold a rare coin and feel its weight can be an overwhelming experience. Caesar, Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Queen Elizabeth I, Napoleon. The thoughts, hopes and fears of these past leaders forever preserved. Today, our coin collections serve as a celebration of our own success, dreams and ambitions – a connection to those who came before us. Equally, prices have appreciated significantly, particularly for the highest quality items and this is something that interests many of our customers

THEIR PERFORMANCE

The coin market has remained extremely strong for many years now. Collectors over the years have witnessed strong price increases in the market mainly due to the fact that they are considered tangible assets. Many collectors having lost faith in the returns from banks and the stock market feel more comfortable possessing a physical rare historic item. The fact that they are aesthetically pleasing, historic and genuinely rare means that there will always be a demand for these beautiful iconic items. The art market, classic cars and other rare collectible markets have all seen increases in the last 15 years.
Examples of such coin price increases are as follows :
An 1839 gold £5 piece could have been acquired for the sum of around £15,000 in 2003, the same coin today would command a minimum of £150,000.
A gold Charles I Triple Unite in 2003 would have sold for around £10,000, that same coin today would be worth in excess of £70,000.
An 1831 Silver Proof Crown could have been acquired for around £5000 in 2004, the same coin today would be in excess of £20,000.
Examples such as these and the fact that each year that passes new record prices are set, gives collectors peace of mind that one day hopefully their coins will be worth more than when originally purchased. As in any market prices can go down as well as up but the signs are promising that currently the coin market is very buoyant.
