Great Britain, Durham, West Lodge, Darlington, Jonathan Backhouse & Company (Bankers) Cheque for £3.3.6d (three pounds, three shillings and sixpence), dated 20th January 1837, payable to “William Russell”, drawn and signed by James Backhouse who died a few months later, St Cuthbert’s Church to left, engraved by W. H. Lizars of Edinburgh. Ex Alistair Gibb collection. Ex Brian Kemp collection. Slight mount damage on the back, good very fine, one of the last cheques issued by James Backhouse, important and very rare.
