Description

Great Britain, Middlesex (London), Skidmore (established by John Skidmore, c.1748-1823, furnisher and stove-plate maker with businesses in Clerkenwell and High Holborn, and later token issuer with his sons), Copper Medallic Penny Trade Token for the Centenary of the Revolution, undated (c.1795), obverse: laureate bust of King William III facing right, date 1688 below, thick wreath of oak leaves surrounds all, reverse: a lion rampant supporting English shield of arms, bell, key, cross and other items being trodden underfoot, REVOLUTION PENNY around, edge plain, diam. 32mm (Dalton & Hamer “The Provincial Token Coinage of the 18th Century” 199; British Historical Medals 285).

Extremely fine, a collector’s number inked into the reverse, darkly toned.
