George III, Princess Charlotte of Wales, Betrothal to Prince William of Orange, AE medal, 1814 (54mm.) by Thomas Webb, published by Sir Edward Thomason. Head r., hair in fillet, CAROLETTA AVGVSTA. Rev. Standing figure of Hope, with cornucopia, olive branch and rudder, SPES PVBLICA, 54mm. (BHM.778, Eimer 1041).

As struck, beautiful bronze patina.

Princess Charlotte (1796-1817), daughter of the Prince Regent. The medal records her intended marriage to Prince William of Orange, an engagement she ended some six months later. She would later marry Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg Saalfeld, only to die giving birth to a stillborn son in October 1817. Had she survived, she would have become Queen in the place of Victoria.
