Crowns and Half Crowns
Valued at five Shillings, the Crown was introduced in 1707.
Its large size meant that it later coins were used as commemoratives that marked events such as the Festival of Britain, the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and the Silver Wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Edward VI introduced the Halfcrown in 1549 and lasted the reign of 22 monarchs in both silver and gold.
