Description
Victoria (1837-1901) Halfpenny, 1864, with experimental numbers scratched in obverse fields, young laureate bust facing left, wreath of sixteen leaves, toothed border both sides legend reads VICTORIA D:G: BRITT: REG: F: D ‘250’ engraved in the left field and ’99’ engraved in the right. Rev, Britannia seated right, incuse breastplate with shield and trident, lighthouse to the left and ship to the right, legend HALFPENNY within inner linear circle, date in exergue (S.3956; BMC. 1783; Fr 295 dies 7 + G). Extremely fine well struck with underlying lustre and extremely rare, believed unique. Verdigris spot on exergue, some lustre, a great example of numbered striking for 1864 , good extremely fine.
