A Battle of Jutland, Long Service Group of 4 awarded to Acting Leading Stoker Frederick Thomas Porter, H.M.S. Benbow, Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Reserve comprising, 1914-15 Star, (K. 26035. F.T. Porter. St. 2. R.N.), 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals (K.26035 F. T. Porter Act. L. Sto. R.N.), Royal Fleet Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVR, (K.26035 (Ch. B. 20079) F.T. Porter. L. Sto. R.F.R.), contemporarily mounted for wear, toned, British War and Victory fair, RFR LS&GC very fine.
Frederick Thomas Porter was born on the 2nd of November 1895 at Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire his trade on enlistment was Farm hand. He joined the Royal Navy for 12 years on the 13th of May 1915 and after Training at Pembroke II was posted to H.M.S. Benbow on the 7th of October 1915 serving abord her until the 17th of July 1916. H.M.S. Benbow was part of the 4th battle Squadron at the Battle of Jutland Benbow fired forty 13.5-inch armour piercing capped shells and sixty 6-inch rounds.
He served on a further 23 ships including Pembroke, Astraea, Hecla, Renard, Violent, Columbine, Sandhurst, Cyclops, Blenheim, Diligence, Vulcan, Lowestoft, Dublin, Constance, Ajax, Marshall Soult, and Castor, until Discharged to Shore, time expired, on the 12th of May 1927. He joined the Royal Fleet Reserve on the 13th of May 1927. He was awarded the R.F.R. LS&GC in c.1934.
