A 1914-1919 Victory Medal awarded to Captain William Courtenay Short, Royal Air Force Late Royal Naval Air Service A Prisoner of War in Italy in 1918, (Capt. W.C. Short. R.A.F.), very fine
William Courtenay Short was born on the 12th of March 1884. He served with the Royal Naval Air Service before transferring to the Royal Air Force on the 1st of April 1918. He served at RAF Manston, Crystal Place and in Malta from the 3rd of March 1918. He was posted to 271 Squadron on the 21st of October 1918 in Otranto in Italy. His papers then state “Prisoner of War”. In December 1918 he has returned to the RAF and was posted to 14 Wing as Adjutant. His papers state “16th December 1919 – Mentioned in Report for valuable service whilst in Captivity.”
Lt – Acting Captain W.C. Short was transferred to the unemployed list on the 17th of March 1919.
