A Battle of Mersa Matruh Casualty Group of three awarded to Private Richard Head, 7th Battalion Green Howards (Yorkshire Regiment) who was Killed in Action on the 29th of June 1942 comprising, 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, 1939-45 War Medal, all unnamed as issued, lightly toned very fine.

Richard Head was born on the 22nd of January 1917 he was the son of Richard and Christina Head of North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, the 1939 Census shows him living with his widowed mother at 5 Peaton Street, Middlesborough, Yorkshire. Richard was Killed in Action, aged 25, on the 29th of June 1942 his body was not recovered and is Remembered in the El Alamein War Cemetery.

Sold with original (damaged) box of issue showing “Head”, and the address of, 5 Peaton Street, North Ormesby, Middlesborough. Original Condolence/Bestowal slip which says (Mrs Head) typed to top left corner and (Your Son 4393095 Pte. R. Head.). Commonwealth War Graves information and some typed family information and details of the Battle of Mersa Matruh
