A Boer War Nursing Sisters Queen’s South Africa Medal awarded to Nursing Sister Ellen Lyon Corser, Army Nursing Service Reserve, Queen’s South Africa Medal, 3rd type reverse, no clasp (Nursing Sister E.L. Corser.), Miniature Territorial Force Nursing Service Cape Badge, unnamed as issued mounted for wear, toned very fine.

Ellen Lyon Corser was born on the 15th of January 1872 and trained at Leeds General Hospital from February 1896 to February 1899, then at St George’s Hospital where she worked until March 1900. She then joined the Army Nursing Reserve in South Africa serving from June 1900 to December 1901. On return to England, she passed the CMB Midwifery Examination on the 4th of October 1906. She joined the Territorial Force Nursing Service on its formation in 1908 and resigned in 1911. She is shown on the Midwives Roll of 1926 as living at 57, Park Hill Road Croydon. She died on the 17th of September 1955.
