John Robert Britton joined the Royal Field Artillery at Sunderland for a period of three years or the duration of the War. He stated that he had served previously with the Royal Field Artillery. He served throughout the War in France and Flanders with “A” Battery 46 Brigade RFA landing in France with the Battery on the 19th May 1915. He was brought before Courts Martial three timed, once for being “absent from midnight to 9.15am whilst on Active Service “. He was awarded a Mention in Despatches in the London Gazette of the 7th July 1919, Service Papers refer. John was discharged at Woolwich on the 13th February 1919.
Once proudly contained in a frame, sold with Royal Artillery cap badge, paper labels from the Medal box of issue for all three medals and copy Service Papers and Medal Index Card.
