William John Hallett was born on the 14th of September 1895 at St George’s Hannover Square London. He enlisted into the Royal Naval Air Service on the 15th of February 1916 having formerly worked as a clerk for the London County Council at Spring garden, S.W. His father [also William] was also employed by the L.C.C. and resided at 3, Bolton Street, Piccadilly.

Transferred to RAF as Sgt Clerk – 1st of April 1918
Air Mechanic Hallett went to France on the 18th of March 1916 less than one-month after he enlisted. Returning to England he served at HMS President II, Crystal palace which served as a reception and initial training centre for RNAS Ratings. When the RAF was formed on the 1st of April 1918, Sgt. Hallett was based at Dunkirk HQ (RNAS). He was posted to 5 Group HQ on the 17th of May 1918 moving to Det Pay Section on the 10th of January 1919. Sgt Hallett was transferred to RAF “G” Reserve on the 20th of June 1919. His Medals were forwarded to him on the 27th of February 1922.
