William Charles James Peterken was born on the 15th February 1896 in London. He enlisted in the Regular Army for the Royal Field Artillery at Stratford, East London, on the 22nd January 1915. He landed in France on the 30th July 1915. He was awarded the Belgian Decoration Militaire in the London Gazette of the 21st August 1919. He was discharged on the 21st February 1927 after serving four years one hundred and seventy two days with the colours and seven years two hundred and forty three days on the “B” Reserve. He married Victoria Beatrice Rodgers in December 1920. He died in London in December 1984 at the age of 88.
