Alfred Charles Laver was born in Bridgewater, Somerset on the 22nd of October 1881, or as some papers state 22nd of November 1881.A Fitter Repairer at the Taff Vale railway. He enrolled in the R.N.R. at Cardiff on the 22nd of October 1901. He was Mobilised on the 3rd of August 1914 and served aboard Argonaut, King Alfred, Vivid, President III. He was awarded his R.N.R. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on the 9th of April 1917. He was demobilised on the 3rd of February 1919He served on the Reserve until the 21st of October 1921. In the 1939 Census he is shown as a Carriage Brake Fitter Great western railway. The Great Western Railway Register states that he joined G.W.R. on the 13th of February 1911 and was paid the sum of 33/6 per week by 1922.
