Arthur Ansell was born c.1890 in Bookham, Guilford, Surrey he attested for the Territorial Army on the 27th of February 1909 stating that he was 21 years and 8months old and an electrician. He attested for the 5th Battalion the Queen’s Regiment at Dorking for four years, re-engaging for 1 more year on the 27th of February 1913, and again on the 27th of February 1914. He was Mobilised on the 5th of August 1914 and posted on the 29th of October 1914 to India. Where he served until the 1st of December 1915 when he was posted on the 2nd of December 1915 to Mesopotamia where he served continually until the 9th of May 1919 re-engaging for a further 4 years in February 1916. His papers state he was appointed Lance Corporal Military in the Foot Police on the 15th of March 1917. He was demobilised on the 1st of October 1919. His Territorial efficiency Medal was promulgated in Army Order AO 380/1919.
