E.L. Shaw. N.Z.E.F.), 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (11/1598 Tpr. E.L. Shaw. N.Z.E.F.), contemporarily mounted, toned very fine
Eugene Lewis Shaw was born on the 15th of April 1888 in Paeroa, North Island New Zealand. He was a Blacksmith by trade when he joined the Wellington Mounted Rifles on the 2nd of July 1915 stating that he had already served 6 years with a local Rifle Regiment. He Embarked with Reinforcement No6 on the 14th of August 1915, landing at Mudros for The Dardanelles on the 4th of October 1915, he transferred to the Auckland Mounted Rifles in Theatre on the 7th of October 1915. He Disembarked from the Dardanelles landing at Alexandria on the 27th of December 1915 leaving for the Canal Zone on the 23rd of January 1916. He then spends most of 1916, 17 and 18 in Hospital with Injured Finger. Pulmonary Phthisis, Haemoptysis, Pharyngitis and Myalgia, He was returned to New Zealand on the 11th of May 1918 with Debility he was discharged no longer physically fit for military service on the 21st of October 1918. His Medals were issued on the 10th of April 1924, his papers state “Died Since Discharge”
