A North-West Frontier, D Day landings, North-West Europe Campaign group of 5 awarded to Private Gwilym John Lloyd, who served with the 1st Battalion The South Wales Borderers on the North-West Frontier and then from June 1939 with the 2nd Battalion, the 2nd Battalion landed on Gold Beach on the 6th June 1944, comprising, India General Service Medal 1936-39, one clasp, North West Frontier 1936-37, (3908775 Pte. G. J. Lloyd. S. Wales Bord.), 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, 1939-45 Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal, unnamed as issued, contemporarily mounted for wear, lightly toned very fine.
Gwilym John Lloyd was born on the 24th February 1914 he enlisted for the South Wales Borderers on the 26th September 1934 serving with the 1st Battalion on the North-West Frontier of India in 1936/37. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion in June 1939. The second Battalion landed on Gold Beach on the 6th June 1944 and was one of the most advanced units by the end of the day. The Battalion fought in the battles of Caen, the Normandy breakout and the advance across Europe to the end of the European War in May 1945. Private Lloyd was discharged from the Army on the 15th January 1946 having spent 12 years with the colours.
