A Rare Casualty Royal Naval Long Service and Good conduct Medal awarded to Petty Officer 1st Class John Kirby. H.M.S. Cambridge and Colleen who Died of Wounds Received in Action on the 31st of July 1920. Comprising Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, GVR, (146898 John Kirby. P.O. 1Cl. H.M.S. Cambridge), lightly toned very fine.
John Kirby joined the Royal Navy on the 1st of July 1891. He stated he had been born in Waterford on the 1st of July 1873. He was serving on H.M.S. Cambridge in 1907 when he received his LS&GC, his Service Papers that I found go to 1908 it states see Folio 146900, which I am unable to find. His Pension Cards Wound Right Shoulder and that his Wound was Attributable to Active Service his papers State he died on the 21st July 1920 of Wounds Received in Action. He was the son of Bridget Kirby of Queens’s Town, County Cork he is remembered with Honour in the United Kingdom Book of Remembrance.
