A Royal Marines, Great War, World War Two Long Service & Good Conduct, and Bar, Group of five awarded to Marine Edward Moat Royal Marines, comprising, 1914-1920 British War Medal, (Ply 19800 Pte E Moat RMLI), 1939-45 Star, 1939-45 Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal all unnamed as issued, Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, GVR, with Bar, (Ply. 19800 R. Moat. Mne. R.M.), mounted on card, very lightly toned very fine.

Edward Moat was born on the 6th December 1899in Canterbury, Kent, he enlisted at the Depot in Deal on the 3rd January 1918 as a Private in the Royal Marine Light Infantry serving at Plymouth and briefly on H.M.S. Glorious in 1919 at Rosyth. He later served in H.M.S. Emperor of India, it was on this ship in 1923 he became a Marine. He then served aboard H.M.S. Furious which had been reconstructed with a full-length flight deck and was used extensively for trials of naval aircraft and later as a training carrier in the 1930s.

Edward was discharged on the 2nd January 1939 and immediately re-enlisted on the 3rd January 1939 at the Royal Marines Depot, Deal. He later served at the Royal Marines Reserve Depot, the Plymouth Division and H.M.S. Royal Arthur until July 1945. Finally moving to the Plymouth Division again until September 1948 from where he was pensioned having served over 30 years in the Royal Marines. His Long Service & Good Conduct Medal was issued to him on the 26th February 1933 and his British War Medal on the 30th April 1922. He was eligible for the Bar to his LS&GC for a further 15 years service in 1948. He was married in Queenstown in 1921. He died on the 29th July 1965.
