A Royal Naval Air Service War Medal awarded to Air Mechanic 1st Class John Thomas Lewis who served with Airships at HMS Cranwell and HMS Mullon Marine Operation Station with non-rigid Airships, comprising 1914-1920 British War Medal, (F.16149 J.T. Lewis. A.M.1 R.N.A.S.), toned very fine.

John Thomas Lewis joined the Royal Naval Air Service on the 10th of June 1916, he stated he was born on the 19th of September 1884 in Norfolk, a Chauffeur by trade. He Served at H.M.S. Mullon, 5 miles from Helston Railway Station Cranwell. This was a Class F Airship Station for non-rigid airships on Marine Operations. He also served at H.M.S. Cranwell (H.M.S. Daedalus) 4 miles from Sleaford Which was the aeroplane school RNAS, Kite Balloon Training Depot and Free Balloon Training Depot, and Class G Airship Training Station. He was transferred to the Royal Air Force on the 1st of April 1918. His RAF records state that he was a Fitter (Gen) Engineer.
The RN Medal Rolls show that he is entitled to a British War and Victory Medals. Sold with Copy RNAS Service Record and RAF Records.
