London Gazette of 30 July 1940 shows 139272 George Arthur Robinson commissioned as a 2nd Lt with effect from 8th July 1940 in the Royal Norfolk Regiment.
The Battalion of the Royal Norfolk’s which qualified for the Burma Star was the 2nd Battalion, which formed part of the 4th Infantry Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division and saw service, the Battalion winning a Victoria Cross, at the Battle of Kohima in 1944. Prior to this the Battalion had been a part of the BEF from the 21st of September 1939 to the 30th of May 1940. The date of Robinson’s Commission coincides with the need for replacements after Dunkirk.
