A Scarce Casualty Victory Medal awarded to 2nd Hand Robert Long, Royal Naval Reserve of the Hired Trawler Worsley when she was sunk by a mine on the 14th of August 1915, (7514 R. Long 2 HD. R.N.R.), fine.
The Worsley (also listed as WOLSEY) was a hired trawler. She was built 1913, 309grt, with a Grimsby Registration of GY.814. Armament: was 1-3pdr. In service July 1915 to 15 August 1915, employed as auxiliary patrol vessel, also decoy trap with submarine C.26. Mined 14.8.15 off Aldeburgh.
Robert Long was born in Yarmouth, Norfolk on the 1st of September 1874 he was a 2nd Hand with Certificate when he joined the R.N.R. on the 10th of June 1915. He served aboard Hired Trawler parameter from the 15th of July 1915 to the 2nd of August 1915 when he joined the Hired Trawler Worsley. He was wounded in the sinking of the Worsley by Mine on the 15th of August 1915 with a Fractured Tibia and ruptured knee joint ligaments, he was admitted to Great Yarmouth Hospital on the 17th of August 1915. He was posted to H.M.S. Pembroke on discharge from hospital on the 16th of September 1915 and Discharged, Invalid, from the R.N.R. on the 1st of December 1915
