Abbasid, Al-Mutawakkil (AH 232-247 / 847-861 AD), silver donative Dirham with broad margins, AH 244 / 858 AD, Surra man Ra’a (Samarra), 2.87g (A. 230B). Very Fine, minor staining and flan slightly crimpled, extremely rare.

S. Album points out the superior calligraphy on the donative issues of al-Mutawakkil from Surra man Ra’a (Samarra), the city in which the Caliph resided throughout his reign. This Dirham was struck after al-Mutawakkil completed the world-famous Great Mosque of Samarra.
