Abyssinia Medal 1869 awarded to Carpenters Crew William J. Lane HMS Vigilant (W.J. Lane Carprs. Crew H.M.S. Vigilant), Undamaged suspension extremely fine
William J. Lane was born in Portsmouth on the 30th of March 1832. He joined the Royal Navy on the 11th of December 1868 sating that his Trade was a Carpenter. The Medal Roll for the Abyssinia Medal shows him as Carpenter Crew H.M.S. Vigilant. He served until the 5th of June 1883 when he was Discharged to Shore – An Invalid No longer required.
