Aethelred II (978-1016), Penny, Last small cross type (c.1009-1017), London mint, moneyer Ælfget, diademed and draped bust left within inner linear circle, legend surrounds +ÆÐELRÆD REX ΛNG. Rev, cross pattée all within inner linear circle, reads +ELFGET MΩ ON LVND, 19mm, 1.16g (S.1154; N.777; BMC I; SCBI 25 [Helsinki], 504, for moneyer not mint signature). Dark mottled toning, portrait impressive with all the main lines showing, legends legible. Reverse, striking crack from the initial minting process, metal stable. Very fine, portrait better.
