Aethelred II (978-1016) Penny, first hand type (issued c.979-985), Winchester mint, Moneyer Brihtred, diademed bust right, legend reads +ÆÐELRÆD REX ANGLOR. Rev, hand of Providence from straight clouds, A and hyphen to left, w and hyphen to right, legend and linear circles, + BYRHTRED M-O PINTO, 1.34g (N.766; S.1144). Small unobtrusive flan crack at 12’0 clock, tiny piercing above the L in ANGLOR. Otherwise, toned with an excellent portrait and clearly defined reverse, a pleasing very fine.
