D. Lomas. 2/K.O. Sco. Bord.) correction to service number; Queens’s South Africa Medal, 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek, (2974 Bnd. Sejt., W. York. Regt.), Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal, V.R, 3rd issue (2974 Sgt. of the Band. D. Lomas. W. Yorks. David Lomas was born in Fermoy, Co. Cork. He attested as a Boy for the 6th Brigade at Fermoy on 23 October 1880, aged 15 years, 1 month. Posted to the 2nd 25th Regiment as a Boy, he was ranked as a Bandsman in October 1883. As a Private (Bandsman) he re-engaged in the 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment on 10 July 1891, being appointed Band Corporal in September 1896 and Band Serjeant in June 1897. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1899. Lomas served overseas in Gibraltar, February-June 1886; Egypt, July-December 1888; East Sudan, December 1888; Egypt, January 1889-January 1890; East Indies, January 1890-November 1895, and in South Africa, November 1899-May 1901. He was discharged at Woolwich on 10 August 1901 being found medically unfit for further service. With copied service papers.
