Description

Canute (1016-35), Penny, Helmet type (c.1024-1030), Dover mint, moneyer Leofwine, pointed helmet bust left with sceptre in front, legend surrounding at 1 o’clock, CNVT RECXΛ•. Rev, short voided cross with pellet and annulet centre, pellet in annulet in each angle, all within linear circle, reads +LVFPINE ON DOFR•, 0.97g (S.1158; N.787; BMC XIV; SCBI 13 [Copenhagen, Part IIIa], 397-404).

A comprehensive example, bright lustrous tone, well struck despite some die clashing in places, free of peckmarks. Impressive definition in the reverse moneyer mint script. Very fine.
