Canute (1016-35), Penny, Helmet type (c.1024-1030), Southwark mint, moneyer Leofric, pointed helmet bust left with sceptre in front, legend surrounding at 1 o’clock, CNVT RECXΛ:. Rev, short voided cross with pellet and annulet centre, pellet in annulet in each angle, all within linear circle, reads +LIOFRIC ON SVÐ, 0.87g (S.1158; N.787; BMC XIV; SCBI –).

Cabinet toning, struck with a rusty obverse die, small oxidisation spot south of chin. A slightly weather worn example, nevertheless all the legends in place, portrait sound, with a wave a 3 o’clock. Very fine in the strike, reverse comprehensive, a hint of verdigris.
