Description

Canute (1016-35), Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017-1023), Cambridge mint, moneyer Adea, crowned bust portrait left within quatrefoil, legend commences, +CNVT REX ΛNGLO. Rev, long voided cross over quatrefoil with pellet cusps and pellet centre, reads +ΛDEΛ ON GRΛNTB, 0.93g (S.1157; N.781; BMC VIII; SCBI 1 [Fitzwilliam], 752; Blackburn & Lyon, London C, late style dies).

Blue grey cabinet tone with lustrous fields, legends concise with a well detailed portrait, clean lines in the drapery and divisions in the hair. Rev, mottled tone, moneyer and mint signatures clear. Bold good very fine, rare. Scarce mint town for type, rare moneyer.
