Canute (1016-35), Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017-1023), Cambridge mint, moneyer Cniht, draped portrait left within quatrefoil, legend commences, +CNVT REX ΛNGLORVM. Rev, long voided cross over quatrefoil with pellet cusps and pellet centre, reads +CNIHT MO GRAN, 0.97g (S.1157; N.781; BMC VIII; SCBI 1 [Fitzwilliam], 754) . Toned, portrait and legends clear both sides, few peckmarks, some fade in the dies. Minute striking perforations at 5 o’clock, otherwise a bold very fine issued in a collectible mint town. Fastened to a superb provenance.
