Description
Canute (1016-35), Penny, Short cross type (c.1029-35/36), London Mint, moneyer Wynsige, diademed bust left with lis tipped sceptre, legend surrounding, CNVT RECX. Rev, voided short cross, within linear circle and legend surrounding, reads +PYNSIGE ON LVN, 0.97g (S.1159; N.790; BMC XVI; SCBI 14 [Copenhagen], 3053-62).
Darkly toned, despite a crack, (presumably from the initial strike given the uniformity), a pleasing example with a handsome dark tone, few deposits and peckmarks on reverse, otherwise very fine, eye appeal.
