Canute (1016-35), Penny, Short cross type (c.1029-35/36), Dover Mint, moneyer Boga, diademed bust left with lis tipped sceptre, legend surrounding, CNVT R•ECX. Rev, voided short cross, within linear circle and legend surrounding, reads +BOGA• ON DOFR, 1.14g (S.1159; N.790 var; BMC XVI; SCBI 13 [Copenhagen, Part IIIa], 313-23).
Grey old cabinet tone on a fully rounded flan, free from peckmarks, one vertical scrape in the Kings portrait. Profile, hair, horizontal drapery bars and the five pellet fasteners all clear, legends equally distinct. Reverse, consistently well struck with a quickly legible moneyer mint script, some softness in the voided short cross, outer toothed borders visible. Good very fine.
