Canute (1016-35), Penny, Short cross type (c.1029-35/36), York Mint, moneyer Hildulf, diademed bust left with lis tipped sceptre, legend surrounding, CNVT RECX. Rev, voided short cross, within linear circle and legend surrounding, reads +HILDVLF ON EOF, 1.10g (S.1159; N.790; BMC XVI; SCBI 9 [Ashmoleon], 735; SCBI 13 [Copenhagen, Part IIIa], 739-45).
Darkly toned on a fully rounded flan, struck with a worn obverse die, few peckmarks, legends generally legible with some weakness in profile of king.. Reverse, off centre strike, legends well struck up with one soft area in the DV of moneyers name. Obverse near very fine, reverse good very fine. An academic example.
