Canute (1016-35), Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017-23), Southwark mint, moneyer Ælfweard diademed and draped bust left within quatrefoil, legend surrounds +CNVT REX ΛNGLORI. Rev, long voided cross over quatrefoil with pellet cusps and pellet centre, reads +ÆLFPERD MO SVDG, 1.03g (S.1157; N.781; BMC VIII; SCBI 15 [Copenhagen], 3697; Blackburn & Lyon, London A, late dies).
Toned with much of its original mint bloom visible utilising what appear to be fresh dies, the portrait, bands to the crown and drapery exceptional, legends legible with lustrous fields. Rev, equally definitive in the quatrefoil motif and inscriptions. Extremely fine, practically as struck with minimal fade or distortion. Rare so well preserved.
