Canute (1016-35), Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017-1023), York mint, moneyer Hildulf, crowned and draped portrait left within quatrefoil, legend commences, +CNVT REX ANGLORVM. Rev, long voided cross over quatrefoil with pellet cusps and pellet centre, reads +HILDOLF M-O EO, 1.07g (S.1157; N.781; BMC VIII).

Struck with rusty dies, some peck marks with a grainy like tone and patina, reverse a more direct strike to the legends. Very fine.
