Canute (1016-35), Penny, Short cross type (c.1029-35/36), Hertford Mint, moneyer Deorsige, diademed bust left with lis tipped sceptre, legend surrounding, CNV T RECX. Rev, voided short cross, within linear circle and legend surrounding, reads +DEORSIGE ON HEO, ligature to D+E, 1.03g (S.1159; N.790; BMC XVI).
Brightly toned, undulating flan, comprehensive portrait, free of any peckmarks. Superb reverse, moneyer and mint much as struck, truly impressive. Obverse good very fine, reverse extremely fine, in a sought after mint town.
