Description

Charles I (1625-49), Double Crown, Tower mint, group A, bust 1a, crowned bust left, double arched crown, value in field behind, no inner circles both sides, mintmark cross calvary both sides (1625-26) pellet and comma stops in legend, reads CAROLVS DG MAG BR FR ET HI REX. Rev, crowned quartered shield of arms, with light garniture, mintmark at end of legend, reads CVLTORES SVI DEVS PROTEGIT, 4.52g (S.2698; N.2159; Brooker 132).

Struck on a full flan an, lustrous gold tone, mirrored around the legends, strong details in the bust and portrait with few areas of softness. Rev, pleasing detail and legends, the dies a little blocky. Near extremely fine for issue, rare mintmark for type.
