Description
Charles I (1625-49), Halfcrown, York Mint, type 7, King on horseback left with upright sword aloft to outer rim, body with flowing sash, horse tail between horse’s legs, EBOR below horse, inner and outer beaded circle and legend surrounding and initial mark lion both sides, pellet stops both sides, HIBA legend with A over inverted A or R, rev struck en medaille, crowned oval quartered shield of arms, with lion skin garniture, lozenge stops in legend and beaded circle surrounding, 13.80g (Bull 556; Brooker 1088; N.2315; S.2869).
Struck slightly off-centre, toned, about very fine, reverse good very fine.
ex John G Brooker, with his ticket, duplicate coin not in Sylloge, sold to Spink and son Ltd December 1972 with pink ticket in the hand of the late Patrick Finn. Bull says the letter A in HIBA is over a retrograde R.
