Description

Charles II (1660-85), Shilling, 1663, first laureate and draped bust right, legend surrounding CAROLVS II DEI GRATIA, coin die axis. Rev, crowned cruciform shields, interlinked Cs in angles, garter star at centre, date flanking top crown, six strings to Irish harp, legend reads MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX, (S.3371; Bull 500; ESC 1022).

A superb example of the first year of issue Shilling, toned with prooflike fields; omitting the usual weakness in the hair that seems to appear on almost all examples. Uncirculated, some haymarking on the reverse, rare so well preserved. A superlative specimen, essential to the discerning Shilling collector.
