Description

Charles II (1660-85), Halfcrown, Third hammered issue (1661-62), crowned bust left, mark of value XXX behind in field with inner circles, initial mark crown both sides, reads CAROLVS II DG MAG BR FR ET HIB REX. Rev, long cross fourchee over flat topped quartered shield of arms, CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO surrounds, 14.83g (S.3321; N.2761; Bull 301; ESC 456). Toned with promising detail in the lower portions of bust, legends legible with some raised die flaws in fields. Rev, impressive shield, noticeably clear from nicks, metal fatigue or edge flaws both sides, which often present on these types. Strictly good fine for a notoriously weakly struck issue, scarce.
