China, Republic, General Issues, Bank of Communications, Uniface Obverse and Reverse Proofs of the 50-Cents banknote, dated 1 January 1915, American Bank Note Company Archive Proofs, punch-hole cancelled and mounted on card stock, Obverse: black, four-masted ship on rough sea within oval frame at left, handwritten pencil annotation “Bank of communications 50 cents” on the back, 115mm x 60mm, Reverse: black, “PROMISES TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND AT ITS OFFICE HERE FIFTY CENTS LOCAL CURRENCY VALUE RECEIVED BY ORDER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS” at centre, dated lower right, space for serial number lower left, geometric design as background and border around all, 110mm x 55mm (see Pick, “Standard Catalog of World Paper Money”, 121). Uncirculated, some mount marks, reverse with smudge around lower left and right corners, otherwise attractive, crisp and very rare. (2 items)
