Description

Canute (1016-35), Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017-1023), Cambridge mint, moneyer Leofsife, draped portrait left within quatrefoil, legend commences from 9’o’clock, +CNVT REX ΛNGLO. Rev, long voided cross over quatrefoil with pellet cusps and pellet centre, reads +LIOFSIG ON GRAN, the AN Ligate, 0.98g (S.1157; N.781; BMC VIII; SCBI 1 [Fitzwilliam], 758). Excellent portrait, light golden tone free from any peckmarks or surface issues, legends all legible and concise, slightest of softness in places. Rev, superb with the odd raised die break. About extremely fine, hailing from a collectible mint.
